Bernhard Ott is beyond a celebrity as far as Austrian winemakers go. This young rock-star of the Wagram has already appeared on the cover of Austria's most influential wine magazine when he collected its highest accolade as Austria's Winemaker of the Year in 2008. He's a big deal and his wines are becoming increasingly difficult to procure as a result. 

The dry 2008 Bernhard Ott Riesling vom Rotem Schotter has a fabulous floral nose coupled with striking mineral intensity. It is produced from red, gravelly soils at a higher elevation than his Grüners, and Ott Rieslings always display superb minerality coupled with freshness and purity. Just 10% of Ott's 30 hectares are planted to varietals other than Grüner Veltliner. His Rieslings and Sauvignons are every bit as striking, and they are nearly impossible to find.
