This has a gorgeous, red-fruited Pinot Noir nose of wild strawberries, red cherries and pomegranate with dried flowers, bergamot tea, and aromatic basil. There is an undeniable stony quality to the wine and the oak is barely perceptible. Superb length and complexity. An excellent pairing with seared veal chops and braised leeks with herbs. 

Hubert de Montille gained a reputation by defying the convention of Côte de Beaune, making age-worthy wines beginning in the 1950s. Siblings Etienne and Alix de Montille run the domaine today. The style at de Montille is wines with firm structure and precision. 

Premier Cru Les Sizies is situated just south of the Premier Cru climat Les Avaux. The 1.6 hectare parcel lies at the foot of the slope on clay dominated soils with some limestone. The result is a wine has weight and density with a certain assertive character. 35% whole cluster lends an exotic touch.
