Clive Coates MW has said "the wine of Givry can be the most charming and the most stylish of the Côte Chalonnaise" and we love scouring the Côte Chalonnaise for values in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. 

Givry is one of the smallest appellations of the Côte Chalonnaise. Here, the soil changes from that of the marl and chalky limestone of northern Burgundy to the richer, more sandy limestone of the Mâconnais. Givry produces 90% red wine and gives Pinot Noirs with lighter structure, but perhaps slightly more perfume than neighboring Mercurey. 

Only one sixth of Givry's vineyard area is premier cru, and Pascal Danjean-Berthoux crafted a superb expression from the Premier cru La Plante in 2009. This excellent vintage has given sumptuous red fruit and a generosity of texture in an appellation that is known for lighter-styled Pinot Noirs. It's a superb value and excellent when paired with beef or pork stews, roasted poultry, or roasted squash.
