Description

The Pignier siblings (Jean-Etienne, Antoine, and Marie-Florence) run their family's Domaine Pignier in the village of Montaigu located 40 km south of Arbois in the Jura region of France. They are guardians of an estate began by Carthusian monks in 1794 and continue to utilize the 13th-century cellar of the monastery that once stood in its place.

The Pigniers are the only grape growers in the village, which is an advantage in their pursuit for biodynamic certification by both Demeter and Ecocert. A full range of wine is produced in both sous voile and ouillé styles. All wines are hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and bottled without filtration.

This 100% Chardonnay was produced from a parcel composed of limestone and schists, rich in clay. The wine is fermented in 228-liter Burgundy barrels (5-10% new), and aged for 12-18 months using the ouillé method where it is topped up as done in Burgundy.
