Description

André and Michel Quénard own one of the leading domaines of the Savoie, famous for their outstanding old-vine Jacquère, and their delicious and peppery Mondeuse.

But Bergeron is perhaps the Quénards greatest achievement. Bergeron is the local name for Roussanne, a grape more commonly found in northern Rhône. It is only allowed in three villages in Savoie, of which Chignin (which can attach Bergeron to its name) is the best known.

Bergeron is labor-intensive. The grapes must be picked by hand in several tries, and when slightly overripe. Only native yeasts are used to ferment the wine. The Quénards believe this is crucial in maintaining the typicity of the variety.

The Chignin-Bergeron is graceful and concentrated with notes of apricots, lime flower, and honey. The wine is textural and maintains a bright core of acidity. It's superb when paired with a leek-and-potato soup fortified with milk and shaved Tomme de Savoie cheese.
