Henri Perrusset is one some 9,000 Mâconnais winegrowers who also happens to make his own wines, and very good ones at that. Kermit Lynch, Perrusset's American importer for the last couple of decades, discovered him serendipitously (the two were seated together in a packed restaurant) in the town of Farges-les-Mâcon where Perrusset lives with his vines.

Perrusset works in the best possible way: vineyards are worked and harvested by hand and the wines are vinified in tank with indigenous yeasts. His Mâcon-Villages was aged on the lees for eight months.

Farges is the northernmost scree of limestone in the Mâcon and its soils contain more marl than in Pouilly-Fuissé further south. Perrusset says this gives his wines a more grainy minerality. His Mâcon-Villages is deliciously flavored with sweet apples and baked brioche. It is a superb value. Serve with toasted walnut bread with greens and a poached egg.
