Georges Vernay, now retired, was one of the holdouts while Condrieu teetered on the verge of extinction during the 1960s and 70s. His wines rose in reputation to be the best in the village during the 1980s. Vernay's daughter, Christine, took over the domaine in 1997 and the wines have never been better.

Today, Domaine Vernay is viewed as one of the top handful producers in Condrieu. Their 7.5 hectares of vineyards enjoy fabulous exposures and the convex arc of the hill that traps the sun. The soil is the classic mica-filled granite with some schist.

Vernay's Viognier Le pied de Samson is a vin de pays from above the Condireu lieu-dits of La Caille and Mirebaudy. The vines were planted in the early 1980s with yield just 30 hl/ha. The wine is vinified in stainless steel tanks and shows superb freshness and linearity while maintaining Viognier's typical stone fruit and floral profile.
