Description

The oldest wine estate in Friuli is Tenuta di Angoris founded in 1648. This large estate has been quietly undergoing a transformation to a top-quality, modern producer with new energy, investment and personnel now in place. All Angoris white wines are vinified in INOX tanks. All wines are fermented with native yeasts.

Angoris farms vineyards in the three main DOCs of Friuli: Collio; Colli Orientali del Friuli; and Isonzo. The land is hilly and dominated by marly, flaky sandstone soil called "ponca." The new Angoris style is best described as "classico," meaning these are incredibly pure and crisp dry Italian whites with an emphasis on place and minerality.

The Friulano is from five estate-owned hectares on the Podere Ronco Antico. This is Friuli's marquis varietal and one is often greeted in a restaurant or someone's home with a tajut (meaning "a cut" or small amount) of Friulano as a welcoming gesture.
Jesse speaks with Sandro Dal Zovo from Angoris about Ponca soils of the Colli Orientali del Friuli
