The Côte d'Or is Burgundy’s heart and is considered the ancestral home of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Its famous Premier and Grand Cru vineyards are spread across twenty-two villages and two sub-districts: Côte de Nuits in the north; Côte de Beaune in the south. A patchwork of land honed over the centuries by monks, the vignerons of today’s Côte d’Or are responsible for the most celebrated and desired wines in the world. The wine merchant must work diligently to secure allocations of its most collectible wines and work harder still to unearth its values.
